How Does Rainbow Six Siege Ranks System Work?

Rainbow Six has it’s own built-in ranking system to assess player skill. Despite undergoing revisions the fundamental goal remains consistent; to pair players with abilities and foster a competitive atmosphere.

The Basics of the R6 Ranks

Fundamentally the Rainbow Six Siege rankings system hinges on a player’s “Skill” value. This concealed metric reflects one’s skill level and adjusts dynamically based on match performance. It’s crucial to distinguish this from your rank.

The visible R6 ranks are categorized into eight tiers; Copper, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Emerald, and Champion. Each tier is further segmented into five divisions except for Champion which stands as a category.

How Rank Progression Works

To advance through the ranks you must accumulate Rainbow Six Siege Rank Points (RP). The quantity of RP gained or lost after each match is influenced by factors;

  • Skill Difference: The larger the gap between your hidden Skill and your visible R6 rank, the more RP you’ll gain for a win and the less you’ll lose for a loss. As your visible rank gets closer to your hidden Skill, the RP gains and losses become smaller.
  • Match Performance: Individual performance, such as kills, assists, and objective play, also impacts your RP gain.
  • Team Performance: Winning or losing a match is a significant factor in RP gain or loss.

The Role of Placement Matches

You need to complete 10 matches when you start playing ranked. These Rainbow Six Siege matches help the system estimate your initial Skill value and place you in a corresponding rank.

The Importance of Rank Reset

The R6 Rank Reset feature helps to balance the player pool and prevent rank stagnation. It is automatically done at the start of each season.

The Impact of Ranked 2.0

In recent years, Ubisoft has introduced Rainbow Six Siege Ranked 2.0 with substantial modifications to the ranking system. The main objective was to enhance player matching based on skill and establish a setting. Key changes include:

  • Separation of Skill and Rank: While your Skill still determines your matchmaking, your visible R6 rank is now more closely tied to your performance within that rank.
  • Increased Focus on Individual Performance: Individual contributions to the match now have a more significant impact on RP gain or loss.
  • Adjusted Rank Progression: The pace at which players ascend or descend in ranks has been tweaked to create a progression curve.

Tips for Climbing the R6 Ranks

  • Master Your Operators: A deep understanding of your chosen R6 Operators can significantly improve your gameplay.
  • Communicate Effectively: Communicate clearly with your Rainbow Six Siege team. Give clear instructions. Don’t try to fool anyone. Clear and concise communication with your R6 team is essential for coordinated play.
  • Learn from Your Mistakes: Don’t get too tough about your mistakes. But learn from them and don’t repeat them again.
  • Play Consistently: Make sure to invest some time day in the game. Otherwise, you’ll have trouble keeping up with other players.
  • Be Patient: Climbing the R6 ranks takes time and effort. Avoid getting discouraged by setbacks.
